The Dean’s Council on Diversity held its first meeting on July 31.
The conversation began with council members sharing about their cultural, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds. The group shared a desire to create a “grammar of diversity” to further expand the Cathedral’s shared language of inclusivity.
One step towards building this grammar of inclusivity is being intentional about where we draw spiritual nourishment. In upcoming weeks and months, you will see included in the cycle of reflections published on Cathedral channels, reflections focusing on saints and notable spiritual figures who are BIPOC (black, indigenous, people of colour) or BAME (black, Asian, minority ethnic). This is not to replace the current cycle of saints but to expand it.
Further down the road, there will also be an initiative to capture a snapshot of the current linguistic, ethnic, and cultural diversity of the Cathedral community. Look for details on that in the weeks and months ahead.
