Dear Siblings in Christ,
As we continue to learn and grow in this unique time, the pastoral team is working on new ways to expand pastoral care to the many ministries that make up the Cathedral community. In order to increase our connectedness while we are physically separated, the pastoral staff and I have decided to create chaplains for Cathedral ministry groups. Members of the Cathedral’s pastoral staff will be assigned to as chaplains to various ministry groups. The chaplain will serve as a point of contact for additional spiritual and pastoral support for members of that ministry group, and help foster a deeper sense of connection as we navigate the realities of being physically separated.
I am pleased to announce the first chaplaincy appointment: our Vicar, the Rev. Helen Dunn will serve as chaplain to the choir.
As one of our larger ministries, the choir plays a central role in the life of the Cathedral community. Due to the nature of the pandemic, it is one of the ministries hardest hit by the provincial and diocesan COVID-19 safety regulations. Appointing Helen, who is exceptionally skilled in the area of pastoral care and support, will ensure that we provide for the spiritual health and resilience of the choir in these unique times, and continue to support this important ministry into the future.
The pastoral staff is currently finalizing chaplaincy plans for other ministries. We look forward to sharing those chaplaincy appointments in the near future.
In Christ,
The Reverend Dr. Christopher A. Pappas
