This Sunday, August 29 is a special day for two members of the Cathedral family. The Rev. Dixie Black marks her final Sunday as a deacon at the Cathedral and the Rev. Monte Tugwete ends his time on staff at the Cathedral.
Earlier this year Dixie decided not to renew her covenant with the Cathedral and retire from ministry. However, Dixie will become “Deacon Emerita” and will participate in Cathedral services from time to time as she is able. We give thanks for Dixie’s ministry, her gift for facilitating Quiet Mornings, and her sermons which invited everyone into deep reflection. We will miss seeing Dixie every Sunday and wish her the best in the next chapter of her life.
The Rev. Monte Tugwete also wraps up his time at the Cathedral this Sunday. Monte joined the Cathedral staff in May 2020 as the Building Services Manager. At that time he was in the final stages of his discernment and formation journey. This past June, Monte was ordained to the transitional diaconate. On September 1 Monte begins his curacy at St. Alban’s church in Burnaby. We are thrilled to see Monte begin his ministry.
Dixie and Monte’s time with the Cathedral will be celebrated on Sunday August, 29 at the 10:30am Choral Eucharist. After the service Cookies-to-go will be served in the Narthex. You are invited to take a cookie and move onto the plaza to say farewell to Dixie and Monte in person.
This Sunday will also be the last time the Rev. Marnie Peterson presides at the 10:30am service. Marnie’s last Sunday at the Cathedral is September 12 and we will celebrate her time at the Cathedral at the 5:30pm service on September 12. All are welcome.
