On Sunday, February 23, we will combine the 8:00 a.m. service, the 10:30 a.m., Saint Brigid’s, and the six weekday services into a single 10:30 a.m. service prior to the Annual Vestry Meeting. This will offer an opportunity to worship together and then attend the Annual Vestry Meeting to celebrate what we've accomplished and what we look forward to in the next year.

We have emailed your 2024 donation receipt to everyone with a valid email address in our donation system. Thank you so much for helping us save on the mailing costs.

You have received an email titled “Your 2024 Tax Receipt from the Cathedral”. There is a link in blue called “View your giving statement”. Please click on this link and your tax receipt will download to your computer or device.

Anyone without a printer can reply to the “Your 2024 Tax Receipt from the Cathedral” email to let us know, and Vanessa will print yours for you.

If you did NOT receive a donation receipt by email, we will mail out your receipt the week of February 24, 2025.

As Transfiguration Sunday (March 2) approaches, we urge you to bring your old palm crosses to the Cathedral next Sunday (February 23) so they can be burned.

Transfiguration Sunday reminds us of our true nature in Christ and looks forward to Easter just as we begin our Lenten journey. The imposition of ashes will take place on Ash Wednesday (March 5) at 8:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m.

Ever wonder why we do what we do at our communion services on Sunday? Join Rev. Areeta and Claude St-Denis to learn about the Eucharist. We'll walk through the service step by step and explore our worship tradition. Following the teaching Eucharist, we'll do a tour of the Nave (the church) to learn what our building teaches us about our faith. All are welcome to join us.

The Diocese of New Westminster is pleased to launch a diocesan-wide youth confirmation class. Led by three clergy in the diocese, including Rev. Jessica who worships at the Cathedral, this program is open to youth, between 14 and 18 years old.

Are you looking for a way to deepen your spiritual life? Every weekday morning at 9:30am the Cathedral holds Morning Prayer.

We will follow a simple liturgy with a Psalm, a Reading, Prayer and Silence. This form of regular, daily prayer is used in the Anglican Communion and a number of other church denominations. All are welcome to start the day in prayer with us.

Morning Prayer takes place online via Zoom. To join in, please email Morning Prayer for Zoom coordinates.

We are excited to announce that the Cathedral is offering outstanding new music worship services beginning on the First Sunday of Lent, March 9, 2025. The Series is called "Sundays at 4" and will feature a different 45-minute music-centered worship each Sunday. The first offering, on Lent 1, will play to the strengths of our music program and choir with a Choral Evensong.

Subsequent Sundays will rotate through a variety of styles like: Holden Evening Payer, Taize, Organ Vespers, and the Dean's favourite, Broadway Vespers, to name a few. Please mark your calendar and plan to join us for some powerful worship!

Volunteering is a wonderful way of deepening your connection with members of our Cathedral Community. Please consider the following opportunities to share your gift of time:

NARTHEX GREETERS - become a part of the weekday team that welcomes visitors from around the world and those who are seeking a prayerful place to connect with the divine.

ALTAR GUILD - members of this ministry have the sacred task of preparing the Cathedral for worship. Please reach out to Sarah Nation if you are curious to find out more.

If you have tickets for this event on Saturday, February 22nd, here are a few things you might find useful to know:

• The doors will open at 5:15 p.m.: please try not to be late.

• We will need to vacate the building by 8:00 p.m.

• The custodians need to set up for services the next day. However, dancing will continue till almost 8:00 p.m.!!

• Please bring your ticket with you if possible.

• Parking at Park Place is available for the usual Sunday fee.

• Please wear a name tag, available on arrival. There are many newcomers attending and it will be good to have names on.

• Find a place at any table where you would like to sit. Save your place by writing your name there with the supplied crayons.

• Pictures are also encouraged!

• Wine available for sale: $5 per glass, $20 per bottle.

• Soft drink Buble: $2 per can.

Can you believe it! We have been celebrating our first 135 years for the past 15 months.

We have shared in so many ways, including community events, 40-minute forums, and snippets of history. Some events, like Carolfest and Hymnsing, may well become annual events in the future. This beautiful Cathedral building has had an amazing past as the Light on the Hill, with “Open Doors, Open Hearts, and Open Minds” as we look to many more years of ministry.

It has been a privilege to share this journey with you and I pray that we can all move forward to strengthen the message and work of our past. The future seems filled with
hope and possibilities, let’s make it even better than the past 135 years. See you for the 150th!!!!

On Saturday, March 1 at 7:30 PM, the British Columbia Regiment Irish Pipes & Drums will be joined by the 15th Field Artillery Band for the 3rd Annual Piping for the Padre. The concert is a fundraiser for the Padre’s Fund, which provides support for the women and men of the reserves, particularly the BC Regiment. The fund provides resources for resilience training, physical training, and spiritual and mental support, as well as financial support for the troops.

I have always believed in a connection between the global and the local, the personal and the planetary. But at my birthday celebration last Sunday – which I dedicated to honouring Christian community in the Middle East- the two came together in some unexpected ways.

We are all products of our DNA to a certain degree -and my life work of communicating cultural realities in the Middle East to the West finds resonance in my own mixed Lebanese/European heritage. I often feel that on a deeper inner level, my professional work is about creating harmony between my ancestors, who came from very different cultures.
