Lenten Rule of Life: Desiring GodA Guide for Fasting, Confession, and Self-Denial - Tuesday, March 4, 2025 Lent 2025 is upon us, begining on Wednesday March 5 (Ash Wednesday) and coninuing until Saturday April 19 (Holy Saturday). Lent, in the Anglican tradition, is a season of reflection, repentance, and renewal—a sacred journey of forty days mirroring Christ’s time in the wilderness. It is not merely a time of giving things up but of taking on practices that draw us closer to God. One powerful way to observe Lent is by crafting a Rule of Life, a structured yet flexible framework for spiritual growth. Rooted in the wisdom of monastic traditions, a Rule of Life helps us cultivate habits of prayer, study, service, and self-discipline, shaping our daily rhythms around God’s presence. Rather than a rigid set of rules, it is a guide that aligns our lives with Christ’s call to love God and neighbor. In this season of self-examination, a Rule of Life can help us deepen our faith, not just for Lent but as a foundation for lifelong discipleship. To that end I am offering you the following Lenten Rule of Life for Lent 2025. For more infomation visit: http://thecathedral.ca/blog/lenten-rule-of-life-desiring-god

Join a choir at Christ Church CathedralNew opportunities for singers We are delighted to announce a number of new opportunities to sing in a choir or vocal group at the Cathedral, including some that are suited to those with little or no previous choral experience. We now have five choral groups, including a Taizé Choir, the St Brigid's Choir, and of course our beloved Cathedral Choir. Each group has a different time commitment: the Cathedral Choir meets twice a week or more (and as often as daily during Holy Week); the other choirs have lighter schedules so they may be easier to fit within your routine. Further information on each of the groups (and how to join) is given on our web site. Come and sing! |

Children of AbrahamSubmitted by Leslie Buck Early in his Gospel, St Matthew traces the descent of Joseph, our Lord’s adoptive father, from Abraham, while St Luke in his Gospel traces it back through Abraham to Adam. Their two genealogical lists are not in complete accord with each other, making them a subject of continual debate among theologians, but including them in the narrative was clearly important to both evangelists. The discordance between the two lists need hardly surprise us. Consider our own situation. For more infomation visit:
