We won't be back together for a little longer as we await things to open up a little more. Our new goal (and hopefully the last) is Lent 1, which is March 6th. Here is our next online session for families to do together at home. This one is themed on the Beatitudes and we hear the story together and get to bake bread in shape of hearts. You will find everything you need including coloring sheets and the story in the attached PDF for you to print at home and below is your recipe for this weeks craft:

Please note this activity should be supervised at all times by an adult

  • 1 1/2 cups of water
  • 3 tablespoons of butter or margarine
  • 1 tablespoon of honey or sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt
  • 4 cups of bread flour
  • 1/4 cup of milk (room temperature)
  • 2 teaspoons of yeast (Instant or quick rise have best results for this recipe.

Method:

Mix your yeast and milk together and let the yeast 'bloom' until the top is frothy. Mix your dry ingredients and wet ingredients separately, then slowly add your wet ingredients to your dry. Mold and knead the mixture into a dough and cover and leave for 30 mins to an hour to rise. Knead the mixture and shape it into hearts, use scissors to make the indent of the heart, feel free to get creative here! Cover again and leave for another 30 mins. When the dough has doubled in size from the original dough size, put it in the oven and cook for 20 mins at 350. Enjoy!

Feel free to flavor the dough if you wish, with savory or sweet. For sweet and for valentines day I recommend making a personal favorite: iced buns, make some royal icing and colour it with jam or food colouring to be pink or red (or any colour!) then cover in sprinkles!
