Last Sunday the Cathedral launched its annual stewardship campaign. We invite you to join the Cathedral leaders at our pre-launch event; 100% of whom committed to making a pledge for 2025. We hope you will commit to the future of the life of the Cathedral and its ministries by making a pledge. Packages, including pledge cards, are available this Sunday after the 8am, 10:30am and 1:30pm services. If your package has not been picked up by October 28th and we have your address, it will be mailed out.
 
And this year, for the first time, you can register your pledge on the website at https://www.thecathedral.ca/pages/give.  This is a new initiative for us and we welcome your feedback on how we can improve this process.
 
Finance is one element, along with time and talent, that make up our gifts. All of these are important and we are truly grateful for all the ways this community gives. 

On Remembrance Sunday, November 10, 2024, we will be remembering loved ones who have passed away. 

Those who have had their funeral at the Cathedral between November 1, 2023 and October 31, 2024 will be remembered in the Prayers of the People.

If you would like the name of a deceased loved one added to the Scroll of Remembrance that will be placed on the Altar, please complete the Scroll of Remembrance by clicking on the button below.

Come show off your Hallowe'en costume! 

Come to the 10.30am worship service, dressed up in your Hallowe'en costume and give us a preview! Families with children are invited to stay for lunch afterwards in the Park Room. Children will have time to play together and watch a short Hallowe'en themed (but not scary) video, while grownups connect with one another. 

No need to RSVP - just show up!

Think of it - Cecil Owen, third rector of Christ Church (1903-1918), signing on as a wartime army chaplain in 1915 at the indisputable middle age of 51.

He was there at the battlefield funeral of his 22-year-old soldier son, Harold, in Flanders on January 31, 1916; the next day he led four funerals for men from his own battalion.

He gave the dedication at the unveiling of Vancouver’s Victory Square Cenotaph on April 27, 1924, just one event in his long post-war life of remembering those years and those men, in public and in private.

Join us for a gentle hike in Lynn Canyon, on Saturday, November 9th from 9.30-11.30 a.m.

We'll meet in the parking lot near the Suspension Bridge and washrooms (3690 Park Rd, North Vancouver, BC V7J 3G3). We will walk, enjoy each other's company and give thanks to God for the beauty of creation. All ages welcome. Friendly dogs are welcome too. We will hike rain or sun (not snow), so dress for the weather. Bring water bottles, snacks, and comfortable shoes. No registration required - just show up!

Christ Church Cathedral commemorates the 100th Anniversary of
Vancouver’s Victory Square Cenotaph and the 135th Anniversary of
Vancouver’s oldest Cathedral

Why did they do it, those men who marched away a century ago, heading straight for Hell on the Western Front? Those men whose distant graves are still remembered at Vancouver’s main cenotaph, dedicated on November 11th, 1924.

Come - and listen — to three men — Private Norman Hughes, who fought at Vimy Ridge, and Lieutenant Harold Owen, both remembered in stained glass windows, and Lieutenant-Colonel William Hart-McHarg, memorialized on a plaque — as they step down from the walls of Christ Church Cathedral to tell their stories of life, war, and death.

November 10th

Honouring our veterans. There will be a revival of Anne Fletcher's play “Duty Calls” at 4 p.m. Admission is by donation. The play will be followed by a short service to celebrate the 105th anniversary of the presentation of the Colours to the 7th Canadian Battalion (now the BC Regiment). Reception to follow.

December 8th

Carolfest. Remember how much we enjoyed Hymnfest? Here's a last chance to sing your heart out with members of the Cathedral Choir, under the direction of Rupert. More news later about submitting your carol choices. There will be a gingerbread cookie to take home! Please bring friends as well to help us make a glad noise to celebrate the music and Rupert.

January 5th

Epiphany. Bringing gifts for the Christ Child. Our gifts will be directed to our Maundy guests and more information will be coming regarding what to bring. The gifts will be presented during the service — hopefully with Wise People to lead the way.

February 22nd

Final Celebration - a party for all, in the church. This will be a wonderful community event, please save the date. More info coming later.

The Peace and Justice Unit of the diocese is endorsing the intent of the Peace Train initiative whose goal is to re-establish conversation and action in Canada regarding our role in ‘Negotiating’ towards peace throughout the world. This will involve meetings in November in Ottawa with politicians and organizations working towards peaceful solutions in our world. The website on the attached poster has a description of this intent along with a petition to parliament which Canadians are invited to sign.

Folks who will be on the Peace Train leaving Vancouver, Friday November 15, 2024 will be in attendance at the gathering at Canadian Memorial Church Thursday eve Nov. 14 at 6:00 pm.

Saint Catherine’s Anglican Church is looking for a new Musician and Choir Director to lead the music ministry of the Parish that is growing in age and cultural diversity. We are seeking an individual to sustain the traditional Anglican style of hymns and organ music, while expanding the repertoire on the piano with a variety of contemporary forms such as celtic, gospel and folk. Start date: December 2024.

The Cathedral's Healing Prayer ministry is centered on healing through prayer. This ministry acknowledges that healing is God's work, and that those who offer this ministry are instruments of the divine presence and care for people.

Prayers for healing are offered with a posture of trust, openness, and faith that God will continue the healing ministry of Christ through the Church. Our ministry with and amongst those who are sick is about God's unfolding healing process, rather than a cure.
