Invitation from the Diocesan Just and Peace Unit to Leadership Training on Community Organizing with Metro Vancouver Alliance, which is composed of organizations from religious, community, educational institutions and labour unions in the Lower Mainland, BC. St. Laurence Anglican, St. Thomas Vancouver and the Justice and Peace Unit are member organizations.

The Unit is a Member Organization of Metro Vancouver Alliance (MVA)  which is part of the worldwide Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF), a 85+ years community organizing organization, based on working for the common good in local issues by building relationships across organizations.

Membership is based on organizations, not individuals. The diocese is one of the Sponsoring Organizations.

I’d like to invite you to take the weekend training Sept. 20 (eve) and Sept. 21st day. There is no cost as the Justice and Peace Unit is a ‘dues paying’  Member Organization.

I could talk with anyone interested on the phone (just send me an e-mail) about the Leadership Institute/Foundations Training and the Justice and Peace Unit’s  part in MVA.

I am suggesting the weekend training particularly. The information is below.

The MVA training with this model of community organizing is based on listening and building relationships and is about strengthening our own organizations as well as what we do for the common good across organizations. This model of community organizing brings together faith communities, labour unions, non-profit organizations and educational institutions for the common good locally. This can be of value in your parish as a way of engaging people, as well as with any organization.

You can find out more about the worldwide parent body this model is based on by going to The Industrial Areas Foundation on the internet.

Please send me an e-mail at mmarquardt@telus.net if you would be interested in attending on behalf of our parish.

When: Friday evening, September 20, and Saturday, September 21 (or alternative Sunday afternoons, November 3 and November 10)
NO COST to those who sign up with the Diocesan Justice and Peace Unit
