Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra’s founding concertmaster Nancy DiNovo has been described as “stunning – a superlative mix of virtuosity and earthy vigour.” In collaboration with Monica Pfau, who has been praised for her “tonal warmth and sensitivity.” Their recital at the Cathedral will feature sonatas by Ludwig van Beethoven and 20th-century Italian composer Ottorino Respighi.

Violinist Nancy DiNovo has been described as “stunning – a superlative mix of virtuosity and earthy vigour” (Victoria Times Colonist), and “simply astonishing…her sheer joy of reveling in the music left me dazzled.” (Brott Festival, June, 2015) A former member of the St. Louis, Toronto and Boston Symphony Orchestras and founding concertmaster of the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, Ms. DiNovo has performed in the world’s major concert halls on three continents with such conductors as Leonard Bernstein, Yannick Nezet-Sequin, Karel Ancerl, and Christopher Hogwood. An avid chamber musician, she is the Artistic Director of the Beethoven and Beyond chamber music series at St Paul’s Anglican Church in Vancouver. Concerto credits include the Banff and Victoria premières of the Kurt Weill Violin Concerto, as well as premières of a number of Canadian works written especially for her. A widely respected teacher, she has taught at the Tanglewood and Marrowstone Festivals, UBC, UVic, and the Vancouver Academy of Music. Recording credits include work for CBC Radio, Earsay Records, Elektra,Victoria Baroque Players, Disney Films, and the 2010 Winter Olympics
Monica Pfau
Pianist MONICA PFAU has performed solo and chamber music recitals throughoutCanada, the USA and Europe. Winner of numerous top awards including theCanadian Gold Medal ARCT Performance Diploma, UBC Concerto Competition, aGerman Academic Exchange Scholarship to the Hochschule für Musik in Munich,Germany, and the UVic Fine Arts prestigious “Victoria Medal”, she has served asaccompanist-in-residence at the Banff School of the Arts, performing withinternational artists such as Janos Starker and the Fine Arts Quartet.Awarded a UBC Fellowship for Doctoral Studies where she studied with JaneCoop, Ms. Pfau has performed as soloist with the CBC Orchestra under MarioBernardi, as concerto soloist under Maestro Kazuyoshi Akiyama as well asorchestral pianist for the Vancouver Symphony; she has recorded for the NationalFilm Board of Canada as well as for a new Australian feature film called“Bloodshot Heart”, and many of her performances have been featured on CBCRadio’s “Westcoast Performance”.
