Join us this Sunday, March 30, 2025 at 4pm for Evening Prayer according to the Book of Alternative Services in the form of Organ Vespers.
All of our 4pm Sunday services follow a familiar service format: either Choral Evensong according to the Book of Common Prayer, or Evening Prayer from the Book of Alternative Services. There are versicles and responses ("O God make speed to save us," or "O Lord, I call to you; come to me quickly"), readings from scripture - including psalms, canticles (e.g. the Magnificat), an affirmation of faith (usually one of the creeds), intercessions, and the Lord's Prayer. Week by week, we build the music around this familiar, repeating structure, according to one of the genres or styles in our rota.
This week, Neil Cockburn, Director of Music will enhance the words of the liturgy by playing organ music inspired by the readings of the day in a format we've named "Organ Vespers." It is still very much Evening Prayer, just with a lot of organ music! If you enjoy hearing our magnificent pipe organ, join us this week to be inspired by these works as we pray the evening Office together.
