Music is an integral part of the Cathedral’s rich liturgical life, and is expressed in a variety of ways each Sunday throughout the year.
10.30am Choral Eucharist—The Cathedral Choir, consisting of twenty-two talented volunteers and eight paid singers assist in worship leadership at this festive, intergenerational service. The choir also assists with seasonal Choral Evensong services at 4pm. The music schedule is available at the bottom of this page.
1.30pm St. Brigid's Eucharist—Jazz musician Ben Dobyns leads music and congregational singing
8.00pm Compline—The women's and men's scholae alternately sing the office of Compline
Music at the Cathedral is ably led by part-time Music Director & Organist Rupert Lang, who has grown and deepened the Cathedral’s musical repertoire over the last thirty years. Along with Rupert, there are a number of other dedicated musicians who bring the Cathedral's musical worship to life.
The Cathedral is open to auditioning new choristers who are keen to join the Cathedral Choir. While spaces are limited for the choir singing on Sundays at 10.30am, there are often spaces available for singers in the evening Compline choir.
Further details about minimum requirements to join the Cathedral's choir, including the audition process are provided in your first conversation with Director of Music, Rupert Lang.
The Cathedral organ was masterfully designed and custom built by Kenneth Jones and Associates of Bray. Ireland.
Kenneth Jones' design at the Cathedral includes an organ case with full height to the ceiling for maximum projection of sound into the room. His gallery design incorporates clean seating (no clutter of chairs), plus open screen
railing to enhance better sound projection from the choir, as well as the organ.

The Cathedral is also home to a Juget-Sinclair chamber organ, or portativ. It was installed 2017. The portativ was made possible by a generous gift by Jacky Fraser and family, in memory of Angus Fraser.
You can read about the full technical specifications of the portativ in the pdf document available for download at the bottom of the page.
