On August 14, a very warm Sunday afternoon ,some of the families from Christ Church Cathedral gathered at Stanley Park for the annual families picnic.
Over our time we had 19 people came to spend some time together, relaxing under the trees near Fox’s Den Water Park. We unpacked our lunches, sat and ate our sandwiches before a change of pace for some games. It has become a little bit of a tradition to have an egg and spoon race at the families' picnic. We did several rounds:kids vs kids, parents vs parents and of course, kids vs parents! We played volley ball, catch and ring toss games. Cold drinks and ice cream were provided by the Cathedral’s CYF program.. After lunch and games, the children made a bee-line to the water park, where they splashed and cooled off before it was time to head home.
Our new Vicar, Rev. Areeta Bridgemohan joined us and took the opportunity to connect with the families. Areeta’s ministry at the Cathedral will have her overseeing and helping with CYF program offerings . The Rev. Jonathan Pinkney also popped by to say hello - just in time for ice cream. He used to share pastoral duties with CYF when he was a curate at the Cathedral.
Between playing many rounds of ring toss, games, and a lot of ice cream, a lovely time was had by all and it was a great way to round off the summer before getting ready for back to school and the launch of fall programming in September. As we look to the fall, we can begin to get excited about getting back into the full swing of the regular children, youth and families activities. One particular thing to look forward to in the fall is the backpack blessing on September 11th and Godly Play which returns on September 18th after a short break. Watch this space for even more!
