The Bells of Christ Church Cathedral

As part of a final phase of rejuvenation in 2015-2016, the Cathedral’s presence in the downtown has been enhanced with a 100-foot tower of steel, clad with 60 feet of stained glass, custom-designed by Canadian artist, Sarah Hall. The glass spire design is entitled ‘Welcoming Light.

Four custom bronze bells installed in the spire ring at the beginning and end of each work day, on Sundays prior to church services, in celebration of holy days, and to mark the civic events and holidays of our interfaith neighbours (schedule below).

‘Welcoming Light’ will be a guiding beacon that proclaims a spiritual heritage and that signals our city as a place of compassion, justice, peace and hope, expressed through good works and the inclusion of all people.

The Bronze Bells

The four bells for the Cathedral’s new spire were created at the Paccard Bell Foundrie in Annecy, France. Founded in 1797, Paccard has made over 120,000 bells, which ring around the world. The Cathedral’s bells will be cast in bronze with a polished finish. Each bell will have a frieze of maple leaves at the top and bottom, with the Cathedral’s name and logo (salmon in the circle) in the middle.

Our bells are:

C Bell 2150kg, 1472mm high
F Bell 930 kg, 1074mm high
G Bell 680 kg, 968 mm high
A Bell 470 kg, 842mm high
