Pentecost is often called the birth of the church, but what does it all mean and how can we learn about it and remember it? Pentecost is a really important celebration as it means the season of Easter is over, we wear red, sometimes have cake, and have more candles around, but there is so much meaning in every part of it, from its story to the symbols we use and how we have celebrated it over the years. Take a look inside this resources pack, children present for the 10:30am Sunday service will receive this booklet printed out, but if you can't make it to the service, here's one for you to print at home!
Pentecost is when we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit appeared in the form of Holy fire on the followers of Jesus, and this is remembered as the birth of the church. We remember the Holy Spirit using a candle, like the one we give to people who are baptized, and we often celebrate the birth of the church with cake,as the church is over 2000 years old! Thats a lot of candles!
