COP30 concluded on November 22 with mixed results.
Critical agenda items were fossil fuel phase-out and climate justice. Countries are calling for setting up a clear roadmap to phase out fossil fuels. Unfortunately, fossil fuel lobbyists are undermining these efforts.
True climate justice provides financial support to the countries in the south who are suffering the most by climate change. These countries are also the ones who contribute the least to climate change, yet they suffer from its worst effects. Clean energy systems need to be built today to save these countries from flooding, draught and other catastrophic changes.
A new goal developed at COP30 is to triple financial resources and to provide at least $1.3 trillion per year by 2035 for climate action. Initiatives have been launched to help countries deliver on their national climate action plans, and for the first time, acknowledges the need to tackle climate disinformation.
